Excellence in Developing Children’s Academic, Social, Emotional and Mental Wellbeing

REQUEST A DEMO

At DESTY (Discovering Exceptional Strengths and Talents in You) we care passionately about developing children’s emotional wellbeing. We understand that life transitions including moving to a new school and a new culture provides unique challenges for children. We also know that developing children’s emotional wellbeing and resilience helps to overcome some of these challenges and increases their ability to engage with learning. This ultimately leads to more successful life outcomes. That is why we developed the DESTY Island Emotional Resilience package.

"I think that DESTY is an amazing tool for so many students. By first addressing children’s self-esteem or emotional challenges they automatically become more receptive learners. The DESTY mentor training is insightful, enjoyable and inspiring. The content covered on the training has not only fully prepared me for delivering the DESTY online programme but has had a great impact on my day to day teaching."

What is DESTY Island?

Created by Educational Psychologist & DESTY Founder Stephanie O'Malley DESTY Island is an individualised, safe, fun, interactive world where children learn about themselves, their feelings and how to cope with challenges in life. This programme is particularly aimed at children who are finding it difficult to cope with major life transitions or children who present with additional learning needs such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) among others.

How does the DESTY Programme work?

A child visits DESTY Island online with their trained DESTY Mentor where they meet our wonderful character DESTY who acts as their island guide and friend. This is a one to one programme where child and mentor work together over a minimum of fourteen 30-40 minute guided sessions.

Who is the DESTY Mentor?

We know that having a positive role model for a child is vital to growing their confidence, self-esteem and resilience. A DESTY Mentor is a key adult in a child's life who is willing to take on the support role for a child as they explore DESTY Island. We train parents, carers and educators to become DESTY Mentors and give them all the skills, tools and support they need.

How does DESTY Island help Children?

We are committed to gathering on-going feedback and evidence of the impact of our training and DESTY Island Emotional Resilience Programme on children and their Mentors. Our pilot study highlighted that 80% of children who used the DESTY Island Programme improved their emotional wellbeing.
